The conservation of Birse
parish’s rich and varied cultural heritage is a central
part of BCT’s work on behalf of the community to promote
the local common good and deliver wider public
benefits.
BCT has safeguarded the future
of some of the most important historical buildings and sites in
the parish by taking over their ownership and management,
including Birse Kirk, the Finzean Wood Mills, Ballogie
Souter’s Shop, Corsedardar and others.
BCT also carries out a wide
range of other projects to conserve and promote the
parish’s cultural heritage. These include archaeological
surveys and historical research at the sites managed by BCT and
elsewhere in the parish, as well as projects into many
different aspects of the parish’s local history. As a
key part of this work, BCT has established the Birse Parish
Archive at Finzean Old School. This now safeguards many old
photographs, documents, other local history records and a
collection of interesting local artefacts. BCT continues to
expand and develop the Archive with further research and
donations of additional material. The Archive can be contacted
through the BCT office at Finzean Old School and visited by
arrangement.
BCT has also re-published the
two main local histories of the parish by Dinnie and Callander, as
well as a number of other local history publications.
