The Turning Mill
is a short distance downstream from the Sawmill and operates on the same
water supply from the Feugh. The Mill was built in the 1830s by
the Duncan family and continues to be operated by David Duncan,
the fourth generation of his family to work the Mill.
The Turning Mill
involves a kiln building, smiddy, generator shed and other
sheds, as well as the Turning Mill building itself. The Mill is
a Grade A listed historic site and BCT works with David Duncan
to carry out restoration projects as part of conserving the
Mill and maintaining its operation. Traditionally, herring
barrel bungs and brush heads were amongst the main products
made at the Mill. Nowadays, David Duncan mainly produces
spurtles and other domestic utensils, including tattie mashers
and rolling pins
