Aye It Wis Aabody
BCT’s “Aye it wis aabody” project has gone from strength to strength. The project enabled pupils from Finzean School to explore the Birse area’s links with the Caribbean slave trade through the history of Finzean School. The pupils have undertaken a variety of activities, including creating a timeline of major events in the school’s history and producing a graphic novel (see below) which is available to purchase from BCT. Finzean School has worked in partnership with pupils from North Street School in Kingston, Jamaica. This partnership was supported by Sir Geoff Palmer, professor emeritus at Heriot Watt University and Jamaica’s first honorary consul in Scotland.
In 2019, BCT gratefully received £25,000 of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Aberdeenshire Council to execute the project, without which it could not have happened.
