Bucket Mill

BCT owns the remarkable nineteenth century Bucket Mill that still survives in Finzean.

Buckets have been made at the Bucket Mill since 1853; first by three generations of the Brown family until the 1960s and now by Stan Moyes, who re-established the skill of making the buckets in the 1980s.

The buckets are made from staves of local native Caledonian pine and metal bands using the unique machinery in the Mill.

A limited number of buckets are produced periodically by Stan Moyes to help maintain the Mill in working order and keep alive the skill of making the buckets.

Turning Mill Products

BCT owns the site of the Finzean Turning Mill which is operated by David Duncan. David’s family built the Turning Mill in the 1830s and he is the fourth generation of his family to work the Mill. BCT sells David’s wood turned products to support the conservation of the Turning Mill.

All the products are hand turned from local native timber (mainly birch) using water power by a fourth generation craftsman. Thus, while all the products are made to be used, they are also collectors’ items – and all at very cheap prices.
